"Special bridges to help bats with their flight path have been built as part of a £42m road scheme in Cornwall."

"The removal of any features which the signals bounce off along routes they frequently use can cause bats to become confused."

Didn't we used to call this "natural selection"?

bats can see just fine

Although they can't see color, bats can see better than we do at night. And, many bats can also "see" in the dark by using echolocation.

See, move a hedge and sat nav goes to pot....

how much to put some more hedges in instead? I'm sure the building contractor can still milk the public purse on that...

Whoah! It's generally not the contractor that makes the money on this! It's the designers now bowing to a perceived public pressure. One particular road scheme I was involved with was going just fine until one "concerned individual" indicated that we may be going to affect a potential bat roost (despite all previous surveys indicating that this was not the case!). This brought the whole project to a standstill while the scheme was redesigned to include some further mitigation including the "bat bridges" as in the story in the link.
