Reports of FIA pressure on BBC not hire Martin Brundle ?
britishtrident - 23/10/08 at 07:22 AM

Reports of possible Herr Flick & Von Smallhausen witch-hunt (?) against Brundle's Beeb Job ?

I have seen references on a few motor sport sites to moves by the FIA to block or make difficult for the BBC to employ Martin Brundle all the sites reference this article in the Dailly Mail by Charles Sale dated 22nd October 2008

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ar...vez-affair.html

One can only hope the BBC follows its' welll established practice in not bowing to pressure in such matters.

Bring back John Watson, when he was on Supersport he was great, Brundle is pale compared to John

I did both. I found the link you have shown, but it's from July and does not cover the topic and further searching of the Daily Wails site lead nowhere.

Get the two blocks from Moto GP to do the show. They put all the rest to shame with their PC, 'what a great race, one car passed another' talking.

Don't bring Suzi Perry though. Martin probably needs the money now that DC, his lad, had retired.

The BBC will be no improvement over ITV.

Agreed that Toby and Julian from Moto Gp would be superb. I always watch Gp on Eurosport instead of bbc2. You get a bit of banter thrown in as well !

I thik what Fozzie was getting at is the point of the thread is that an unpopular, external institution is allegedly pressuring the BBC, not the respective qualities of different commentators

John

^^^^^^

Unpopular? Only if your car's not red

Is this the BBC that does so much advertsing and is not presurised by anybody at all, i think smell the coffee would be an apt phraise

Fozzie - 23/10/08 at 11:38 AM

Brundle, like him or loathe him, at least had the bottle not to toady to the Mr M Mosley antics that sullied the 'sport'.

It isn't about whether or not he is a good commentator, but more like he had the gumption to say what the rest of us were either thinking, or talking about amongst ourselves.

The fact that the FIA are trying to influence the BBC as to who or not they should employ, just leaves an even worse taste!

IMHO of course!

I totally agree plus only racers/ex racers should be allowed to commentate on these programs as they know more about there sport than those other pillocks .

The 'stop the cock' campaign (sniff petrol) was dear to my heart, at least Allen is out. God I hat that bloke!

Martin gets on well with Bernie 'dwarf' Eccleston so he will be 'allowed' to work at the Beeb next season

iplayer - They don't put sport events up on iplayer.

no adverts - where have you been living the past few years? They have loads of adverts, but at least no commercial breaks.

I caught up on quite a number of MotoGP events over the past season via iPlayer.

...and the Beeb don't shove adverts in the middle of a race! How many times did ITV come back from an ad break and say "here is today's overtaking manoeuvre that happened while you were away"?

i think Martin Brundell makes the ITV F1 coverage work. Imagine if they didnt have him.
that ted kravitz bloke is obviously loathed by all the drivers, they barely even look at him let alone talk to him.

the teams and drivers see brundell as a freind/colleague not as a journalist, which means he gets interviews (ie on the grid) which other reporters dont.
He is very knowlegeable too; dont know if you lot saw all the articles he did where he drove all the different F1 cars of the past & present, no other commentater would have been given that chance thats for sure.

Like him or not, i think he is very valuable to the broadcasters making it a good show.
