Zetec Weight Vs Duratech Weight.
dhutch - 30/4/10 at 09:40 PM

I was just wondering if anyone had ever weighed a zetec against a duratech.

IM sure someone has, but ive never really seen figures side by side.

Clearly the duratech is aluminum, but the block is a small part of the engine weight and theres a fair bit of it in the duratech.

Just wondering. Not planning to go duratech, but curious.

2.0 Ford Zetec is about 125kg.

2.0 Ford Duratec is about 105kg.

Both weights with ancillaries.

I think the 4age is 80kg bare.

While we're her, anyone know the weight of a T16 turbo engine??

graememk - 1/5/10 at 07:06 AM

can you quess how much i weigh ?

coozer - 1/5/10 at 07:11 AM

125kg?

iank - 1/5/10 at 08:36 AM

From what I remember (think PPC did a bit on the t16) is it's a shared block between petrol and diesel engines and is very heavy.

iank - 1/5/10 at 08:40 AM

I've read (can't remember where - sorry) that some modern cast iron blocks are very similar in weight to (probably older design) aluminium blocks due to minimising the amount of metal - only possible with cad design and spending time doing lots of stress calcs.

I think the 4age was brought out as being very light for an iron block engine.

A little bit heavier than an MGB 1800 B series engine which is heavier than a 2 litre Pinto

I have an a-series (hence wanting to jump to BEC) bet that weighs more!
