Freelander diff, anyone running fairly big power/torque through one?
SausageArm - 14/4/11 at 01:02 PM

As the thread title, I'm wondering if anyone is running a fairly high power/torque engine through a Freelander diff? and how the diff has coped?

I will be running switchable maps for low/high boost settings, hopefully giving between 300bhp/140lbft and 450bhp/250lbft, I know the torque is not that high compared to the standard freelander engine but the power is up a bit, just wanting to know how it will hold up, if anyone has any personal experiences it'd be great to hear them.

Westfield stopped using them because Megabusa's were lunching them.

I wouldn't hold out much hope!

I have one with Quaife internals with a supposed 183 bhp at the wheels. Also now running really soft Avon slicks. After two events no failures so far!

Fingers crossed.

Cheers

This is true, I have a zx10r turbo Mac Worx, hence the wondering about the Freelander rear diff being up to the job, suppose time will tell, lol.

Is it the Quaife ATB internals you have? How do you find it drives compared to the standard diff?

yep also running one as per pauls, 120Ft pounds torque 190bhp 3 track days and 400 miles no issue yet touch wood finger x, etc,

but with 400+ bhp i am not sure, is it the wuaiffe internals and lock up or open diff?? i ran a sierra 338 with 300+bhp and was ok,

cheers

I've only ever use the Quaife from new in it. I wouldn't consider a big power upgrade without it personally.

To take the power I have, I use the Quaife and a CycleLogic lockup clutch kit and check the duff mounts and prop bolts every few events.

Cheers
