What a dick i am!!
jakeob - 29/6/12 at 08:49 PM

If you could have seen in my garage about an hour ago you would have seen a fifteen stone dick head jumping up and down on a 4 foot socket extention bar.

I have just tried to undo my rear wheel hub the wrong bloody way, and threaded my drive shaft

All this to convert to disks

Ohhh bugger

PSpirine - 29/6/12 at 09:04 PM

Surely you're changing the shaft/joint for the disc bolt-on ones? So it's only the old ones you buggered?

If it helps I did that for about 2 days when I had my mini until I realised.

No I am using the same push in drive shafts, i am taking the hubs off to get them machined slightly smaller so the new disks will fit over them.

every one of us has done similar things. Part of the deal. Good luck with it!

If anyone on here says they haven't done anything stupid whilst building the kit then they are lairs lol....

MikeFellows - 30/6/12 at 09:31 AM

i buggered a set of perfectly good front and rear hub and hub carriers on day 1 of the build

ive also bought stuff in preperation for stuff only to find when i get to the job ive bought the wrong bits and i cant reasonably expect to return stuff after 6 months

I reckon all in all my stupidity has cost me between £500 - £1000

I changed an Alfasud gearbox to fix a mystery knocking noise once. Turned out to be the wheel studs that were loose! I was only 18 though!

Well after ringing around and having no luck in locating a shaft, i decided to make the 4 hour round trip to Mk,,,

They matched me up another drive shaft they said would work!!!!,, only to find its too fat to go through the big hole in the upright

Is that just cos it has the ABS toothed ring? If so, needs turning off.

I've done the same myself but jumped on at least a 6' pole . It was when dismantling my Sierra which was a 4x4 - I'd got three hub nuts off no problem and went on to the fourth. Broke three Halfords 2' breaker bars in the same day and they were good on the lifetime warranty every time . Then I realised what I was doing wrong! Despite that punishment the threads were fine though.

drive shafts
drive shafts

The bottom shaft is the right size and the top one is too fat,,, i dont think it can be machined down
