Longitudinal FWD engine/gearbox layout

Hi,

Calling on the collective knowledge of this place, how many cars used/use this layout of engine and gearbox.

This is an Audi 90, Saab had something similar and off course the old VW’s but what else?

Off the top of my head, Alfasud and Alfa 33. Lancia Fulvia. A few old Renaults ie 17,20, 21, 25 and 30 and probably more. Subaru but they are of course 4wd.

The autograss boys used to nail Rover V8's to the Renault 30 gearboxes and run them in class 10 specials.

The Scooby Impreza/legacy flat four 4wd cam be made to do this if you lock off the rear wheel drive, used like this in the SDR Storm car.

Also the Porsche 911 gearbox can be turned upside down and fitted this way, as used in GT40's and Lola T70 replicas and the Ultimas.

Porsche Boxster has this arrangement mounted in the middle of the car, think this uses the same gearbox type as the Audi A4 2wd.

My first car was a Renault 6 had the box at the front of the longitudinal engine. A normal gear lever stuck out of the box and a long stick connected that to the umbrella shifter in the cabin.

Loved that car, all 850cc of it

Nope, the Impreza was also produced as a front wheel drive only.

My TDI a4 does anyway
