Zetec thermostat housings.
Danozeman - 7/9/15 at 01:45 PM

Hi all.

I have a problem. I have a 94 silvertop zetec mondeo engine and i need a thermostat housing. Which ones fit as i cant find a mk1 one. Will later ones fit? I need 1/8npt sender fitting.

My other option is a vastly expenive raceline rail.

Iv been out of the scene for a couple of years as my cars been tucked away so iv lost touch with whats available etc.

As far as fixings go all Zetec thermostat housings are identical.

But the housings off Focus Blacktops are useless since they do not have any threads for sensors at all. The sensor is in the head on those. This may actually apply to late Mondeo Zetec Blacktops as well but not sure.

The best housing to get is off a very early Escort/Orion. They are alloy and don't crack like the plastic ones.

Don't waste your money on a Raceline one, you will have nothing but problems.

Just looked on e-bay and they are all the useless later ones.

Suggest you look for early Mondeo's in scrappies and make sure you get a spare while you are at it.

I got a couple (silvertop plastic) not too long ago from the local scrappy off old Mondeos. There seem to be plenty around.

Paul you say early escort or orion. What engine?

CVH alloy one.

The best zetec on is the one from the ST170 engine. This was upgraded by ford. You may need to bolck off an extra pipe from it but that depands on what yo have fitted to the old one

Zetec 1.6 and 1.8.

Many people say the CVH one will fit, cannot comment since I have never tried one. But the outlet exits in totally the wrong direction and may foul on chassis etc. It also lacks the bypass circuit and special thermostat of the Zetec so the warm up phase is not controlled.
