To those of you who have fitted, or use, one of these T9 gear shift extensions -

Does yours engage reverse satisfactorily? What mods do you recommend (if any) to improve reverse selection?

I made my own using David Jenkins example and a few bits out of the scrap bin, reverse and the reversing light works as standard but I don't know about that example . Mine was a lot cheaper at £0.92 in total , that was for the plastic saddle on the selector rod and that includes a quick shift. HTH

Apart from knocking out the reverse detent in the gearbox, I found experimenting with washers between the remote and the box (Three bolts) helped the gear change. I think I ended up with a couple on each bolt, just to lift the remote up a frac.

Works fine.

Wot Andy says above

I did that with both of mine and it made a big difference

Andy D, your info is of particular interest; that part, about the reverse detent removal, rings a bell. Will deffo try the washer spacing mod.

Thanks to all of you for your useful advice, which, as ever, is greatly appreciated.

Just to be different, I fitted mine as is and it worked perfectly. No washers etc.

The detent was all part of the extension, all worked with no issues at all. Mine came from rally design if that makes any difference.

Yep, mine went in 'as is' and has worked perfick for 2 years now.

I got one from Rally Design and was struggling to get 5th and reverse. The problem turned out to be the detent (if that's the spelling) plungers had stuck with the gearbox sitting for a while. There is one in the front left top of the box, remove the grub screw. There is another on the tail shaft behind the plate on the side. Plenty of releasing oil and everything worked fine. The only problem is that you can't fit the cap on the end of the tail shaft behind the gear lever.

You can fit the cap if you put a hole in it
