Can you name my turbo?
lewis - 7/3/16 at 02:44 PM

Does anyone know what model Garrett turbo this is? & what car it would have been from, I'm trying to find out some more info about it & see if I can get a service/repair kit for it.

Looks a Keith to me, but then I could be wrong!

I'd say it's a T3 judging by a google search of photos

M27 was on my Saab 95. Also just been told on my sons Mazda RX8

Looks the same as what I've got on my zetec turbo. I'd say it is a T3 from a Sierra Cosworth, probably a 2WD. You can get rebuild kits off ebay.

Thanks for the replies (kind of walked into that joke ) the m27 is not a model number I am lead to believe & is to do with the inlet only not the complete turbo,my hunch was also T3 & came off a zetec turbo project so makes sense.

As youve summised the m27 is a compressor frame number rather than the specific turbo. Garretts have a small stainless plate on the core, usually by the oil inlet or drain tappings. Lookibg at it, id say its off a small capacity motor, probably 1600-1800cc max. If you measure the 4 hole inlet bolt pattern thatll tell you if its a T2 family frame (covers T2/T25/T28s) or a T3 frame (T3, T34).
The 3 bolt exh stub fitting is significant and a good way of finding what its off. Maybe look at fords, fiesta rs etc. Doesnt look nissan they usually have 5 bolt pattern exh housings.
The zinc plated bolts dont look discoloured which suggests they are non original meaning it may have been apart recently.
Easiest way is to send back to a decent turbo rebuilder, my preference although neither are the cheapest out there, are Turbo Technics in northampton or Turbo Dynamics in Poole

I'm going to say it's a t3 off an escort turbo ( not the cosworth ) there will be a number on the exhaust housing, off the top of my head a 36 is a escort , a 42 is a cosworth.

I've just noticed it's a 48, so a cosworth it is.
