AfterMkt Fuel Pump (Bike Carbs) Q
Dick Axtell - 5/7/17 at 09:22 AM

Hi Everybody. Have decided to fit an aftermarket fuel pump to supply my R1 carbs. The Facet pump over-fuelled bigtime!

This is the pump I got :-

FOR YAMAHA YZFR1 YZF R1 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 PETROL FUEL PUMP

Installation space is limited, and in order to connect fuel hose to the pump, those straight inlet/outlet tubes need modifying. I propose to solder on a couple of 10mm copper elbows to make hose connection easier. What could possibly go wrong ??

Please advise if you think there might be any problems which might result from this mod.

modern fuels may attack the solder and/or copper.

Thanks for that point. Was a bit cautious about the solder, and its reaction with the fuel. More research needed.

Could you fit one of those filter and pressure regulator units between the pump and the carbs, you could then fine tune the fuel pressure to suit. I had one on a pinto with bike carbs and facet pump...worked well.

Move the pump? I fitted mine by the side of the tank, plenty of room.

Hi 40inches, thanks for that installation photo. The right-angled entry fuel filter looks very useful. Please could you let me know where you got it?

Gotta Malpassi fuel filter/press regulator fitted. Had it wound down to approx. 2 bar. Still had chronic over-fuelling, which is why I'm hoping to change to a bike pump.

needs to be turned down to about 2psi. [2bar is approx 30psi, and would never work]

It's a Kawasaki ZX9R pump pre-filter, off eBay.
