ST170 running on the cheap?
Nickp - 11/7/18 at 01:03 PM

I've come to the conclusion that there is no way I can use the ST170 inlet manifold in its entirety in the Quantum, it's just far too big. However I can use the bit that bolts to the head and get some bike carbs to go on it.

Bike carbs - What are my options? ZX9, R1? Any others? Anyone got any sat about gathering dust?

Ignition - There's a stack of options out there. This looks simple. Is it just a few wires on the right ECU? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-ignition-ecu-wiring-loom-2-0-zetec-focus-mondeo-2-3-galaxy-kit-car-banger/253712728394?hash=item3b1275014a:g:hGwAAOSwU chaC23~

Flywheel - I'm still after a suitable 1.8 Zetec one or a CVH EFi one if anyone can help?

VVT - I'm planning to not use it (for now) and retime the inlet cam to around 110deg.

Plan is to get it in and working as quickly and cheaply as possible, I can always refine things later.

Cheers
Nick

Can you run the engine OEM (using the guide on here) but with a log type inlet similar to the Pepper Performance ones (also available at kitspares) using the stock injector rail, throttle body, air temp, TPS and MAF. I did this on a silvertop zetec using the Griffin version, Ginetta also used a version for the G20 I think. May be worth an email/call.

Note - you may need to run add injector bosses as I think the St170 has a different arrangement to the Silver/black top.

It's a possibility but I'm not sure that'd fit either especially with the throttle body at that end. I've only got a bare engine at the moment so carbs and a separate ignition system make the most sense.

i fitted ZX9R carbs to mine using the bit that bolts to the motor. I had a megajolt on it and used the shift light function to switch the vvt.

How is it switching the VVT like that? I believe Ford do it progressively through the rev range.

Did you drill the jets on your carbs? What to? Could give me a starting point
