compact mx5 inlet manifold

Just having some (probably bad) ideas. But does anybody make a compact inlet manifold for the mx5's?
Thinking something like the zetec ones sold by kitcarparts, still wanting to use the std throttle body etc etc.

A search has not turned anything obvious up (yet)

probably easier and cheaper just to tackle the issue which is making you think you need a more compact manifold, they seem quite compact as is. Is it hitting the chassis? if so how about moving the engine off centre to make more room?

A friend wants to put an MX5 into a standard atlas van. Height seems to be a problem. His plan B is a lexus V8 which is an easier fit. But a van that had about 40bhp when new may not like all those extra horses. The mx5 was only triple the bhp.... (scary enough for something like the van)

If it's going to foul the bonnet can you not get a bonnet with a bulge to accommodate it?

Mx5 MK1/MK2 engine are quite tall changing the manifold wont help that.

If you want a more compact inlet have a look at ITB's http://danstengineering.co.uk/ or jenvey are worth a look.

The problem with ITB's is although they dont extend so far forward or up they stick further out to the off side.

I guess the obvious answer is to make one.....not exactly rocket scince, and even if the runners are not optimal the loss of a few horses won't be a disaster. The vans are cute, but make a VW T2 look like a go-cart to drive
