Stuff it, stupid car - UPDATE NOW WITH PICS

Hi All,

an update from yesterdays thread.

I took the oil pump off to check the pressure relief valve.

The pump was locked solid,

It's mullered the thread on the pump AND the Camshaft.

SO lots of nice metal bits in the oil, and most likely boiled bearings.

The Engine will now have been out 4 times in 2 months.

I've really just about had enough.

3 Options

1) Fix Engine again....
2) Some one has a complete engine package for sale Engine gearbox, exhaust intake etc.
3) Any one wanna buy a Car....... with a mullered engine

I'll take the pump apart ater and find out why it jammed.

going for an early beer or twenty

Ouch.

Is one of those deals from GBS (700 pounds new Zetec) or one of those suppliers (there are at least two more I've seen), an option? Brand new, and from here it looks like a great deal.

if you want to make it easy how about just swapping the engine for a similar spec good/rebuilt one ?

The advantage of going for something like a Zetec is that if you have a problem you just buy another engine. Both my initial 1.8 blacktop [ran perfectly but was noisy] and the replacement 2.0 cost around £60 each.

Only trouble is i don't have much cash to spend at the minute as i'm getting married in 5 weeks, and i really wanted the car for the day.

Bad result...

I wouldn't throw any more money at that engine... The Force isn't with it... it will need a 100% strip and rebuild to make sure that those bits of metal have all been removed. Either replace it with a known good running x-flow, which come up on the forum now and again (easy solution) or go for a Zetec, as suggested. You'll have to spend a bit more money getting the Zetec to fit - new pipework, and the engine's a fair bit taller so you might need to modify a few bits and pieces - but at least you'll have a modern-ish engine that'll be more powerful and more reliable (hopefully).

Good luck, whatever route you choose!

To be fair, that could happen on any engine!

If it was up to me id rebuild the old girl! Although it makes more sense to go with another block at least.

i'm gonna have to take it out and strip it either way, cos it's minced the camshaft.

You can always put the wedding off - those simple arrangements can always be remade

After all, the car is the girl in your life - think of the time, money and effort you've put into it - you can always nip out and get another female - the planet's over - run with them !!! Image deleted by owner

What engine is it and where are you.

You could try asking on the Ford Sierra owners club forum.

Theres a guy on there got about a dozen sierras sat on his drive

If it's not back on the road in time maybe a fellow LCB'er could help out with wedding transport - not the same as driving your own, but probably the next best thing.

I know you've got no money, and no patience left, but just thought about this thread of yours when I saw that Charlie Zetec is flogging a 1.8 zetec on here - see for sale section.

You could do worse?

Regards + best wishes for wedded bliss, Steve.
