sierra driveshaft types
Hey hoo
I got hold of a 3.62 with diff push in shafts. i've just taken one driveshaft out from my 3.14, and they don't fit in the other diff, they
are too big
would any one know which ones i'd need? could i just change the inner CV joint?

They will have different numbers of splines so you might need to change the inner sections to match

Hmmm i think the cheaper option would be to find another diff!

Rather than buy another diff, which could very well be the same, just change the driveshaft flanges over from one diff to the other. Take of the back
plate, and you will see that the flanges are just retained by circlips, pull of the circlip, slip the flange out, put the other one in and pop back
the circlip, job done! HTH Ray

The 3.14 will have push in flanges though

hey guys
both diffs are push in type, but the 3.62 i have uses smaller less splines, can they just be swapped from diff to diff?

Yes, the flanges are the same fitting, it's just the spline sizes that are diferent, it really is a nothing job, shouldn't take you more
than an hour to do. Cheers Ray

Can i just confirm that this can be done? how do you remove the parts from the diff? the splines and the bearings? i know the bolt on shafts can be
removed with taking out the circlips!?

Out of interest (related to my thread also in this section) can you replace the flanges at the hub end in a similar way? I have Cosworth hubs and the
driveshafts don't fit.

Chippy - he's talking about push-in diffs isn't he? No flanges there to change! Sounds like you've got the (quite rare?) diff with
smaller internals than most other 7" diffs. If you are swapping your old 3.14 for a 3.62 I presume you need too keep your existing shafts for
hub compatibility. Therefore easiest solution would be to just get another 3.62 with the right size innards. Pick up a bolt-on one and that will be
right if you remove the flanges, or there should be push-ins with the right size internals. If you're selling a 3.14 you no longer want
you've certainly got the cash to get another 3.62 in!

yep would like to keep the shafts the same for the hubs sake! i guess any 3.62 that isn't lsd would be ok! not much out there in diff land
