Both of rortys designs are the same width as the escort axle if i remember correctly. And therefore both require that the sierra halfshafts are shortened.

I am sure the details are in the drawings.

There is a drawing knocking about which has another system using the Sierra trailng arms, which is pretty heavy, I'll see if I can find it.

Or you could buy my book and shorten the driveshafts

Or just buy the book and not shorten the driveshafts.

So long as you buy the book, my granny needs an operation or something...

Cheers

Chris

chris, ive got your book , so your "granny" can have her beer if got the french version,

what want to make is IRS the same width as the escort (why why cos it looks nearer the original lotus thingy)

can some one please tell me the track width for an escort axle, or even better what is the dimension over the outside of brake drums for a escort axle, thanks,
anyway grinder at the ready for shaft shortening (ouch) , dave

If you are building a 442 ie 4 inches wider +4 inches extra in the cockpit and 2 inches higher in the frame, then it is suited to sierra half shafts etc but will need the rorty rear to be amended to give the extra width. I did do all of the calcs on instantaneous centre associated with moving the frame rails that the wishbones hang from 4 inches further apart and this had a negligable effect on the roll centre but did mean that I could use the half shafts as is which meant no cutting no rewelding and no balancing. Certainlt a win win in my book!

Best of luck

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Where did you get the French version? I was trying to get a copy but couldn't find one. Not trying to give Chris any extra beer money though

Last time I looked Amazon didn't have it.

Not sure my wife would approve of a French girlfriend

Apparently, I don't get into the legal stuff but I presume they did their homework.

(I hope they did, you've got me worried now!)

Cheers

Interesting one this Chris. Not at all my subject. The only involvement I have had is in protecting product names for products I had designed.

Here's a link to Caterhams details.
