Clutch Slip
Hi Guys,
I had my car on a rolling road the other day getting dynojetted. This is the first time the engine has been put through its paces properly since
installing it in the car and we encountered a bit of a problem.
Between 8k and 11k rpm in 5th gear the clutch slips, it's not a massive amount of slip but it is still slipping none the less. I don't get
any slip when taking off the line, and the rear tyres will easily spin. What I want to know is, is it more likely to the friction plates or something
rather than the springs? I'm not sure if the springs have been upgraded or not. The engine is a ZX9R.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

If it helps. I put Barnett uprated springs into my engine when I got it and clutch slip is just about the only thing I haven't suffered with
yet.

I was thinking of going for the uprated springs first, I just wasn't sure if it was likely to be the springs when the slip is when the engine is
coming on power as opposed to taking off the line.
Where is the best place to get the springs?

I have the barnet clutch plate and springs. It slipped worse until I put some washers between the springs and the "top hat". It has been
fine for 3 years but now I'm getting the first signs of clutch slip. More spring force is what you need.

We use oem plates and barnett springs - the springs are a must and work well
tried both barnett friction plate types (heavy duty and kevlar race) both were useless
If your clutch is slipping now you will almost definately need new plates
We have springs on shelf and can normally get plates in 2 days when it isnt a bank holiday if that helps

Cheers Andy,
Could you give me a quote for plates and springs please. I have already been told to only get oem plates and nothing else!
Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Andy!
I'm getting there now Mark, was down at holeshot getting setup and that's where we discovered the clutch slip! Also may have uncovered a
problem with the box - found a false neutral going for 5th I'll see though i'll give it a test run and see how it goes
Send me an email about how you got on in the last round
