Bovington 09

Along with 150 others went to their first ever track-day in aid of Help the Heroes yesterday.
What started out as atrocious weather conditions turned out to be not too bad a day.
Organisation was excellent (they are all military types of course) but the circuit (4. something miles) was testing to say the least.
Not less than 12 metres wide at any point it did however lack run-off areas with some pretty unforgiving stuff (concrete stein-hinkels or whatever they are called) just off the track. As it turned out the gorse bushes and pine trees were pretty un-forgiving as well.
There was an enormous array of machinery and generally most enjoyed themselves and managed a good number of laps.
Hold-ups were relatively few.
Would we go again?
Probably not. Even for the most experienced of drivers the margin of error is I think unacceptably small.
Cheers, Pewe

Glad you escaped unscathed!

It looks like the MX5 and M3 owners had an expensive day out!!

I was interested in it, but having seen the damage inflicted on WRC cars on the tank stages in Germany, it won't be on my list of tracks to do!

Makes even the 'ring look forgiving!!

All in a brilliant cause though!

Mike

Great selection of cars there.

The MX5 driver must have been a little shaken-up that looks like a pretty heavy impact if not a roll or two.

Nick, since you ask he was OK, rolled it about three times and deffo was saved by the roll-cage (as was a Marshal who went out for a run later on in his Volvo, disappeared into the scenery and was left hanging up-side down until help arrived).
Guiness, I was un-scathed but two of our number had a quick trip to the local hospital for stitches and check-over having gone off into the scenery - fortunately they weren't detained!
Cheers, Pewe

There no wonder that M3 got stuffed, his bumpers were full of blocks of wood!

Looks like a great day though - shame about the damage! But the track does look pretty brutal...

Thats a good example why you need a good cage in a track car,I would think without it,that could have been a fatality ,I watched a promotional video for this event, and the track looked very iffy,it goes to show trackdays should only take place at proper race circuits where safety is paramount, all in my opinion of course
