help a chav

Hi all a mate who is a chav loud corsa etc was introduced to kit cars recently when I took him to newark show. He is now desperate to own a 7 type car, his problem is no money. Sooo does any one know of a really cheap or free chassis to get him started, anything would do as we can repair rebuild it. I know its a big ask but these things come up every so often. Thanks neill

Surely he'd be better off saving up and then buying a part built. Seems simple to me but this isnt a cheap hobby, and builders who never have any cash invariably end up quitting before the car gets built

Does he realise that 22" wheels with 30 profile tyres and Aluminium wings just don't work on a 7 and it doesn't have windows to mirror film and fuzzy dice will blow right off the mirror.

Tell him now before he commits - it might put him right off the 7.

I really really want a Cobra, anyone know of anything going really cheap please

Sorry, but as already said, if he can't afford the chassis he's got no chance of ever finishing the car, unless his scratch crd comes up.

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

I though buying a part built with "everything needed to finish" it would be a nice cheap option... It still cost me an extra £5k to get it on the road! No such thing as cheap when it has wheels!!

Cheap Cobra - I might know where there is on that might be going up for sale soon...

There is no replacement for displacement...

I'm glad people are being straight with this guy. This project will cost MORE than any pre-built, either kit or factory. He has to get it into his head that while it looks cheaper on the surface, those small parts add up!

Uncle Ron was a long time ago in another era, who had access to things we can only dream of.

Just as matter of interest I looked up the average wage in 1963 it was £4396.64 according to These Guys they also say in 2007 the average was £40405.48 so roughly 10x the amount so should the book be renamed Build Locost Sportscar for £2500. However from these numbers 2 things are very clear I am vastly underpaid & I spent too much on my car.

No government knows anything about normal people. £40k is more than the total income of our house!

My plan was to get things bit by bit, even if I had to scratch up small amounts of money and take ages to do it, hope that can work out
