To the right, or to the left?

Windscreen wipers, that is.

Is it better to have them parking towards the passenger side, like mookaloid's machine:

or to the driver's side, like locoR1's car:

The first option is the same as most tin-tops in this country, and I would have thought that those wipers would cover a greater area in front of the driver...

...or am I wrong?

definitely the top one. my current car has wipers like that and I much prefer them to the other way. My clio which had wipers that went the other way and I found that i had a dirty spot where the wipers arch infront of the driver.

Good question! until now i hadn't even thought about it but would have to say i probably got it wrong

I originally installed mine parking on the left (as per my tintop), thinking that that gives the most swept area on the driver's side. I then found that although I got less swept area on the right by reversing my wheelboxes, the arc was better positioned for me, so they now park on the right.

It was a long time ago and I've forgotten the reason, but it was probably that with such a short windscreen, parking on the right put the top of arc of the right wiper in front of my eyes, rather than over at the pillar.

Passenger side parking. Keeps them out of the way when you're not using them and gives the largest swept drivers area. No brainer IMHO....

I disagree - mine park on the passenger side and I would get a better sweep in my field of view if I'd make them park on the drivers side.

I can't really change it now either.

I sneaked a quick look on the Caterham site last night - they have theirs parking to the driver's side.

Not saying that it's right because they say so, but they have had a lot of experience...

Ah, I see what happened - He has a pic of my old car in his archive because he and Mango made my screen

It then becomes logical to think that it is his car

Anyway to answer your original question, it doesn't really matter which way they go because unless you have a roof, the rain gets sucked onto the inside of the screen so you can't see where you are going anyway.

They work well as fly-screens, but I still need a helmet.

I got the aeroscreen/deflector from MK a couple of years back at Newark Kit Car show, I think it was.
ISTR it was around £15.
I didn't want to go for the full windscreen/wipers/washers/demister malarky.
When the car had its SVA, I left the screen off, but asked to tester for 'advice' as to whether it would be compliant. He set up his jig on the driver's seat and I measured the height of the string above the scuttle. The screen comes in about 1/8" under.
If fitted for SVA it would need radiusing all round.

You will probably find it worse with a screen fitted great at low speeds but you get lots of buffeting at motorway speeds also as said before if it rains heavy the water gets on the inside making it near on impossible to see where your going.

Are you planning on Half doors or side screens they make a big difference to the buffeting and the problem with rain getting sucked round on the inside.

I've just fitted a Caterham full screen after having a Mac1 Aeroscreen. The Caterham screen is much better at motorway speeds with a lot less buffeting than with the Mac 1 screen, which to be honest didn't make any noticeable difference to not having one at all.

I don't have any sidescreens on at present though.
