Bellhousing leaking water

Ford crossflow and after a previous overheating problem is chucking coolant out of the drain hole in the bottom of the gearbox housing. Now, whilst appreciatting that this is likely indicitive of a totally f....d block, can anyone shed any light of cause?

Core Plug........Corroded.
Gearbox off and it is at the back of the block.
About 50p.
I'm amazed that builders don't change them......................

If I remember right there's a core plug behind the flywheel, it might just be that.

Gte the gearbox off if you can and keepo the engine in the chassis if possible and turn it on and see where the waters coming from, should be fairly obvious.

If its "chucking" it out it should be easily spotted

Happened to me, took the 1100 out and put a 1600CVH in instead. Was in a Mk4 Escort though.

If it's in a locost it will be easier to remove the engine to replace the core plug. Would be a good idea to fit a set while your at it!

Ahem, After dancing a wee jig realising that it's only a bloody core plug, can anyone tell me if I can still get one from my local friendly Ford dealer?

As rusty said - if one's gone, it's a fair bet that all will need replacing.

You'll have to get the engine out to get at the one behind the flywheel, so it's a perfect time to change them all. You'll probably find that they'll look perfect on the outside, but severely corroded behind.
