remote gear linkages

hi all,

im well and truly fed up of the gearchange on my punto JTD (X Reg)

it is the most vague, stiff and unreliable gear change setup i have ever used,

it is very stiff as said above, this can usually be solved by removing the linkage and scuffing it with a bit of wet n dry but im getting to the point now where im doing that every month or so,

secondly the lever wont self center, if i pop it out of 1st the lever will stay on the left side

so my question is, if I got a remote gear change unit off a different car with the same shift pattern could i use it on my car without too much difficulty?

in cant see too much wrong with that idea, maybe i would have to adapt the lever where the cables attach to account for different throws of the cables

thanks in advance

Matt

Sounds like a lot of bother. Has it always been like this? Or has it got worse over time?

I'd be looking at taking the cables out and replacing them. There may be a kink / heat affected area in the existing cables?

Mike
