Donor V5, what do I do with it?
My poor donor cars shell is ready to go to the big scrapyard in the sky. I have kept the VIN plate from inside the engine bay, the chassis and from
inside the windscreen.
What do I do now? Do I tell the DVLA the car has been scrapped and send them the V5 back or do I need that to get an age related number plate?

No, keep hold of it and keep it on SORN.
When you register then the DVLA wil take it off you.
If you scrap it now it's no longer yours, it's gone!

The shell and the V5 or just the V5? Don't want a shell in my driveway for years

Get rid of the shell by all means but keep a firm hold of that V5! It's going to be like gold dust for you when you come to register with the
DVLA. Take photocopies as well just in case the DVLA 'lose' it during the registration process.
For my build, I kept the VIN plate, number plates, old tax discs, and anything else I could find with a number on it. The scrapyard took the shell
away as 'scrap metal' not as a car.
Keep your V5!!!!!

I scrapped my donor and declared it as such to DVLA, but kept a photocopy of the complete V5.
When it came to the DVLA inspection of the completed kitcar the guy seemed satisfied with the photocopy and they issued an age-related number.
I'm pretty sure you won't get the donor number transferred to the kitcar.

Thanks everyone
The gent taking it away is a scrap dealer rather than a breaker and I have kept everything with a number on it, even cut the chassis number out, have
some old tax disks and the original receipt for the car and of course the V5.
Thanks again

Why not just declare it as scrapped, which it is?
Otherwise you run the risk of a SORN penalty for a non-existant vehicle.
There seems to be unnecessary complication going on, unless I'm missing something...?

You are doing the right things, take all the numbers so the scrap cannot be identified as a car.
Keep the V5
Sorn the car until you pass IVA and present all the details to DVLA.
Any other route causes problems later.
A lot of people get to the end of their build then think about the paperwork.
Do this first and you won't have problems later.
This is a constant problem and we need to make new/early builders aware that the paperwork is as important as a good safe build.
