Zetec & Throttle Bodies
I have a 1.8 Zetec (Silvertop) which I'm planning to fit with Throttle Bodies in my MK Locost. I've seen some decent R1 Yamaha TB's
on E-Bay.....comments / advice welcome.
Oh.....I'm toying with the idea of trading up to 2.0L Zetec running the same TB's....thoughts on this as well.
Cheers.

Which model R1
R6 are cheaper and 38mm so upto the job on 1.8 and 2.0
Early R6 Tb's look like carbs but have injectors under them.
Easy to make a manifold with a flange from short track on here and ebay.
Ive not finished these yet but you get the idea.

think R6 or R1 (38mm good for 150-160bhp anyway) or the more popular GSXR600/750 as
ebay
another option on a silvertop is to use a standard fiesta/escort injector sandwich plate rather than the throttle body ones, one advantage is if you
are respacing them you dont need to worry about making a new fuel rail. only thing is you need a different manifold blank but shorttrack do both
options

Don't rule out bike carbs! I'd like to go for TBs / megasquirt, but from what I've seen there is absolutely no point from a power
point of view, and carbs are miles easier to set up.

big_wasa when you say "Megasquirt wont like them but the ford eec-iv +v will"
Why not?
I'm running a set of R6 TB's that look like carbs with squirty on my Silvertop (with the original motorcycle injectors on a cut n shut
re-spaced fuel rail)
Think mine seem to be working OK
Used the rubbers from the donor motorbike as well
Bolted them to a shortrack flange with some ally spacers between rubbers and flange so the transition of the 2 different shaped ports wasn't too
aggressive - all held together with long allen head bolts and a smear of sealant
No issues on induction side for the last year or so its been together
Good tip ref the blacktop injectors and rail fitting in like that :-)
Kind of handy to know..and could have saved some greif of the cut n shut traumas I went through

My very bassic understanding of Megasquirt, it is better to use hi Z injectors. You can use low Z but get into problems with board design and current
demands and the need for balast resisters, aswell as flyback issues. ?
So megasquirt will work better with the bike injectors than the low impedance ford injectors.
Please correct me if I have misunderstood this ?

OK, gotcha :-)
Think the low z injector issues (for v2.2 hardware) are resolved by using the add on flyback board and using pwm
OR
adding resistors
I thought the later v3 board already had the flyback built in so that low z worked out of the box with no mods or extra hardware...could be
mistaken
Think if given a choice of injectors hi z is plug and play if you have the older 2.2 board..but if you have the v3 board it shouldn't make any
difference?

There's a set of GSXR 600 throttle bodies for sale on my website (plus quite a lot of information about converting from carbs to throttle
bodies).
NOW SOLD
