IVA points system, Q plate

Hi all, building/completeing a complete self build vehical, how does the ponits sytem work for points per item used and how many do you need for a non Q plate.

I can use the
steering rack (cut and sleeved)
steering colum,
engine and G box
drive shafts but sleeved and welded
hubs and wheels for the front only.

Whats wrong with being Q plated?

thanks wayne.

There is no points system for kitcars, that is for 'radically altered vehicles'.

For 'Kit Conversions' which is what we do you need two major components from the donor vehicle. The list of what is 'major' is on DirectGov.

Nothing wrong with being q-plated, in fact you get a much easier emissions test at MOT time. You cannot have a personal plate though and some people think it devalues the car.

You need 2 major components from your donor to get age related plate (same year as donor.
All new parts gets you a new reg (09/59).
Anything else gets Q

Q can't have private plate transfered to it.

It's DVLA that decide not VOSA/IVA.

I had problems with the dvla. I made my chassis and they wanted it to be made by a company.

I eventually won my age related plate, but because its got manufactured chassis on the info they use I nearly didn't!

AND....If you only use one reconditioned part and prove the rest is new then you get a new plate as I did, 09. You will need receipts and guile

I did'nt have a donor vehicle V5, but got an age related plate by totting up 8 points from
a) engine & gearbox from the same known vehicle (including registration no)
b) chassis, body panels & rear axle all form the same supplier, all with receipts. The age related plate, 'W' reg, was based on the engine vehicle reg.

motorbike engine and gearbox are sometimes considered as two parts, but not if they ask Swansea (who consider them to be one part). Well that is what happened to me.

Therefore difficult to get a BEC on an age related.

Q isn't a problem (in my mind).

Thanks for the replys guys, so no big deal with a Q plate, and is good as it sounds even more hard to work to get a age related plate.

Do you think it would be best if i got a donor car anf take what i can from it to try and keep the DVLA and IVA a bit more happy even though i will more than likely get a Q plate , it is already near complete except for brakes but i have no proof where they came from.

Once again thanks for the info guys.
