Anyone been to court for speeding?
Like a bit of a tit, 5month ago i got done for speeding. 51 in a 30 on my own road (loughborough ring road) and as of friday i have a summons to
court.
Full details here http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=39101
Just wondering if anyone else has done this and has any pointers.
- Going to fill the forum in tonight and send it off in tomorrow mornings post.
My plan to date it so plea guilt by post with letter of mittigating jobbies and request to attend court and say my bit.
Suggestions on things to include in the postage form greatly receaived as well as suggestions on what to do and say in court and what they will ask.
Ontop of arriving looking suitably applogetic and suited and booted.
I have taken up an IAM course in the hope of learning to keep focused and interested in driving within the speed limit.
Fortnight i also got a fixed penalty for doing 71 on the motorway with a light trailer. Clean leicense for four years since 18 before than.
Cheers, Daniel

you'll have to go and bow your head in shame im afraid, there will be a person there from the ticketing office, who also represents the police
and the judges etc.
you end up with a fine, probably £60 and 3-6 points, and then you'll have to pay court fees which is about £15 i think.

guy at work got followed on his SRV Aprilia by a undercover cop bike a few months ago and got a summons which he has attended.
was soemthing like 82 in a 30 (most of the road had faster limits but he did not slow for a row of shops or something)
pleaded guilty and said he was silly for doing it and the weather etc got the better fo him etc (sunny, new bike)
anyways, £500 and 5 points, which i thought could have been a lot worse

In your case a ban might be the best thing, getting another 6 points on top of your recent 3 would mean driving like a saint for the next three years

Thats not bad is it.
- Ive been on pepipoo.com as i say where the advise seems to be to i should expect 5-6points and around £100 or so. Or a 26-52day ban. But i might
get away with 3points.
Ive never heard of people geting 5points, but 8 rather than 9 would be a decent step even if i didnt get off with only 3.
I personaly wouldnt mind a ban inplace points as im a student and it would be during the winter term anyway (foul weather and no real need to drive)
but it seems that would look worse on the insurence. Although for how long i dont know.

I went to court. I think its best to - if you dont they think your not bothered. Get a good speech together. Dont make any silly excuses. They dont
mind to cause you hardship but if a ban causes other people hardship (family etc) that will help you.
Good luck!

Don't underestimate the effect that a ban will have longer term. I was banned for 14 days many years ago for doing 61mph in a 30 zone. My
insurance was up for renewal 2 months later and the quote went up from £75 for an old mini to £785 because of the ban. I argued that it was for
speeding not drink driving and the response I got was "we look upon all driving bans as being very serious. It doesn't matter if it was
for speeding, drink driving or dangerous driving".
Don't look at a ban as the easy option.

No i think your right about the ban thing. Particlarly as im insuring two cars (tintop and kit) and have no money!
Ive sent the forms of, pleaing guilty, and requesting to attend the summons.
Slightly worried that i dont really have much to say in way of mitgation or anything else, but i guess they would have to sit there and make a
decision anyway, so i might as well be there and stake my peice.
My best/only line of mitigation as i see it is that at the time (twenty past 7) the road had very little traffic, few if any padestrians or roadside
parked cars. It was a dry day and the visablity was good. (i saw the scamera van from my drive, but didnt recognise it for waw untill too late)
I would also like to mention at some point that i am in the process of compleating the IAM skills for life course.
- Somthing i had considered before, but am doing off the back of the offence as a way of trying to curb bad habits, and maintain interest and
motivation in driving, within the speed limit.

I think 51 in a 30 is beyond the usual scope of an SP30.

The IAMS is good but the above is leaving yourself open, is it really OK to exceed the speed limit if you think conditions are OK for it!
Turn up booted and suited, grovel and eat humble pie. The fact you have recently got points for speeding is not good. Use the IAMS in your defence how
you have made amends to become a beter driver blah blah yes sir three bags full sir

In the eyes of the law, obviously not. In most peoples, yes if conditions permit!

Well yes and no.
- I mean, i thought the condition where ok for it.
- I dont think i should have done it, im sorry i did, and im not planning to do it again.
however, im trying to draw the line between someone who breilfy opened it up a little much, and needs a good kicking and three points anda fine for
doing so.
And someone who inherently speeds round loughborough at 50-60 in an overloaded escort come rain or shine and needs a ban and max penalty points.

I can see where your coming from but IMHO the law only comes in black and white.
There are no grey areas.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
