1.3 Mk3 Escort

A bit of advice needed.

My Dad announced yesterday he had bought a 1.3 Ford Escort (very cheap). I asked him what MK it was, 1, 2 or 3... He had no idea, other than it was 'very old', late 70's early 80's. I asked did he think it was RWD or FWD? He *thought* RWD.
I had dreams of preparing a historic rally car for fun! Got to see it today and no, it's a MK3. My dreams shattered!! Still, it did come with a heap of free bird poo!
LOL, having a look round it, I reckon it's for the scrappers but it does have a 1.3 engine (yet to hear it, so it could be scrap too!). I've a couple of pics but I wondering *if* the engine turns out OK, knocking up a wee spacefame and making a wee autotest special. What gearbox would be strong and would fit the bolt pattern of the engine for RWD?
Are there any bits off it that are useful?
Any thoughts?

Thanks
Ali

Service the engine, set the tappets. Remove all parts you may need and bin the rest. Then build your special. Most old school gearboxes should fit.

If you want to do autotest, keep the standard box and put the engine in the back
