Escort rear disc conversion
Anyone know if the MK2 Fiesta XR2 front discs will fit the rear hubs on an Escort axel???
I have conversion plates but they wont allow me to use the standard sierra disc and the Fiesta front disc is the only one i can find that will.

Mk 4 Escort front discs will definately do the job and i'm sure they were used on other ford models.

Hi, yes fiesta front discs fit a mk2 escort axle but you do have to machine the od on the half shaft flange a little this is standard practice for
fitting rear discs onto rwd escorts

I'd machine the disc to fit not the half shaft as it'll be a half shaft you'll be changing in a muddy paddock one day not a disc!

You can't really do this, you'd have to machine metal off the inside of the bell, which would reduce the strength of the disk.

You can machine the inside of the disk as rally design do on their kits or phone up rally design and buy their conversion disks ready done
saves messing around

Agreed. We've just converted our axle to take VAG ally calipers and use (I think) Fiesta MK2 front discs, basically the smallest and lightest I
could find. By the time the brackets were made and it was all squeezed under 13" wheels it was pretty much only the friction faces that
hadn't been modified. There was plenty of material available to safely remove some from the bell to fit over the halfshafts, on those discs
anyway, with no signs of distress yet.
WRT disc choice. I suspect XR2 discs will be a little large for most rear seven type applications. As mentione the ones we used were the discs from
the small engined mk2 fiesta and need the ID of the bell enlarged slightly (or hub reduced!) to fit the escort halfshaft.

I believe that its more usual to machine the flange than the disc its more likely to be worn discs than snapped halfshafts that need changing Ray

I was referring to a competitive environment where it's highly unlikely you'd turn up with worn discs but you may break a half shaft.

You'd have to bring a new half shaft with you anyway, so no problems getting it machined.

So in conclusion....
The Escort Mk 4 and Fiesta Mk 2 discs will fit if either the discs hub is milled (internally) or the halfshaft has to be milled to accept the new
disc....
is there not a dis that will just fit???

The halfshaft only needs the outer diameter of the drive flange turning down slightly. It's a simple operation and no milling is required.
I'm sure you could get a disk that would fit over the drive flange, but whether you could also get it to fit under a 13" rim is another
question. Since every conversion kit I have seen involves modifying the drive flange I would suspect not.
You could always make you own alloy bells and use AP racing type disks. You can get solid ones and they aren't particularly expensive.
