Bike Throttle Bodies for a BMW?
Just as a curious speculation, does anyone know the suitable size / which bike throttle bodies would be best for a BMW M44 engine 1.9 16v?
Also would a remap of the standard ECU be a) necessary b) sufficient or will an after market ECU (such as megasquirt) be needed?
There is a bit of information on the BMW forums about throttle bodies (M3 etc) but I couldn't find any on bike bodies.........plus we all know
this is the best place for information!

Does the M44 engine run a single throttle body and MAF? does another BMW engine run individual bodies which could be swapped?
ive done something simular with my zetec converting from single to 4 indivdual throttle bodies retaining the MAF running the standard ford ECU which
works ok so in principal possible, weather its worth it though will depend on if the individual throttle body is restricting power

Yeah the M44 has a single throttle body and MAFF which is why I was wondering if the ECU actually needed remapping / changing.
The E30 M3 had individual bodies as did M powered straight 6's.
I was thinking bike bodies due to ease of sourcing them at an affordable price.
Any ideas which ones are suitable?......GSXR 600's.....750's.......Hayabusa??

have heard GSXR 600 can do 175bhp 750's 200bhp, benefit is if BMW do an alternative individual throttle bodier you may be able to reuse your
injectors which flow matches your ECU and no hassle with making a inlet manifold, respace ect. if you are considdering trying to use the BMW ECU you
need to all the orignal matching sensors, injectors etc

Would you say theoretically then, one could make a manifold (possibly butchering a standard one) respace some bike bodies, use standard injectors form
the BMW and utilise the MAFF and the rest of the sensors whilst running it on the standard ECU....?
That might be hassle for little or no gain.
Alternatively source a larger single throttle body and run the rest as standard....?
I suppose to get the biggest gains you would want to use an after market ECU specifically mapped to the new set up.
Will, what improvements have you noticed with yours?

this is the exact improvement changing from a single RS1800 throttle body to 4 individual GSXR600 throttle bodies made for mine abont 10bhp more and
500rpm higher, which is good as its a track day car, but as you can see from graph breathed better but only an improvement when rev'ed above
5500rmp
what do the BMW forums say? if looking for best value for money power increase is there a larger capacity engine to drop in?

The most common thing people do is to put a bigger engine in (325, 328 M3 etc), like you say, but I wanted to exhaust alternative avenues first before
doing the normal thing.
It is probably the most cost effective power increase but I can't help thinking it's cheating!
Thank you for your input, I shall do some more investigating.
