GKD Legend build thread...
Well Here goes the next few years of my life
Chassis and more has arrived today, the wait was only 6 weeks if that, managed to get the donor taken away/garage ready and chassis delivered all on
the same day!
The kit seems very good quality and well thought out, the build manual is on another level compared to most which should help.
Peter(GKD owner) is very committed to the car and it shows. He spent time showing me around the car and putting the panels where they'll be
located and what goes where etc etc. Good 1 to 1 service.
Garage started the day like this....
and ended about 20 minutes ago like this

Very Interesting design of the scuttle but more importantly looks really good. Really look forward to the progress of this thread...

Good luck with the build, and thanks again for the parts. Sorry for my timimg in turning up when everything was being deilvered.
Chassis looked great in real life. Has a very different front end to most. Caught site of what was left of the donor when I left - Was it an M3 ?

No worries, Sorry if I was a bit disjointed, it was a case of an excited man! It was an M3, on it way to being a pile of scrap now.

Looks very nice, i expect to see a lot of these being built soon.
Hound of the Baskervilles maybe... but what freaks me out is the dog blanket making an appearance in almost all the pictures, but in completely
different positions them dogs get around a bit lol
Oh btw, i'd suggest you get all the fibreglass bits out the way or at least wrapped up while your working on the chassis, cos they'll get
damaged easy!

Will be doing that, even though the bodywork is alloy bar the scuttle, nose and wings.
Going to get some pipe lagging to go over all the parts that i'm likely to damage during the build.
The 'green' eye dog is always watching

Does your lurcher only have 3 legs? I've got a whippet staff cross and shes spindly as anything, did he/she break one?

Yes, only 3 legs. She fell over and did the splits tearing all the nerve endings apart so she had to have it off.
Still fast though

looks like a good bit of kit does that. should be an animal with that engine in it.
pete is a really nice chap, he lives locally to me and offered to give my car a look over before the iva, its not even one of his cars! its a really
good sign that the bloke loves what he does for a living. you can also see he loves his work as the result is sitting in your garage.
im just wondering how long its going to take everyone else to jump on board and use bmw running gear in a 7. at the moment he has the market
cornered.

Good to see your getting started!
Ive hit a bit of a dead stop with mine since christmas, but ive got a couple of weeks off coming up so hopefully get cracking again.
Wish i'd ordered the full cage now looks excellent.

I asked the same question but can't remember the answer. The cage is nice but they look good with a roll hoop too.
Build is going well, got all the hubs together/reconditioned some parts/fitted bushes and the 2 ally gearbox panels.
I'll post some pics up when i get it rolling or all the hubs mounted.

Proper update now....
The build has gone quite smoothly, pressed in all the bearings/bush's etc etc, made up the hubs, reconditioned and rebuilt all parts from the
donor including the LSD.
3 corners are now built, on the fourth there's a slight error with one of the brackets so the guy who builds the chassis is coming round to
alter it.... what customer service from a kit car company obviously i'm impressed.
Managed to get 2 inner gearbox panels on and the two side panels without too much drama.
The eagle eyed among you will notice that the front wheels point inwards.... cock-up on my part for getting the wrong rack
I've taken the gearbox off the engine so I can get it on a stand. The 3.0 lump (fingers crossed) is the strongest of the m3 engines however
when raced it can suffer from oil starvation so I've got a twin pickup pump and sump from an m3 evo to fit which stops this(£100 bargin).
Once the car is rolling i'm going to fit all brake lines/fuel lines/loom before I build up the courage to tackle the engine.
Starting to slowly take shape now though
Sorry for all the pipe lagging on the car but i've only a few brain cells and I was fed up of hitting my bonce.
The main thing I've picked up is to not sit on the sofa after sitting on the garage floor as i'm running out of bits of the sofa to turn
around to hide copper-slip marks
