Painting MK Alu interior trim/U trim

Tried this at the weekend with Black hamnmerite smooth.

the result were terrible. I have used Hamerite before with great results, this was just terrible. The paint was just getting pushed around, tried 5 brushes all with crap results.

Thinking i need to strip with paint stripper and then prime perhaps or creat a key?

any advice? I know its comes in rattle cans if thats easier?

If you are using Hammerite on Aluminium you need their special primer, otherwise is does just what you described.

is it because it's made of aluminum? if using hammerite try the special metals primer which is like red lead colour. Paint sticks to that no problem

clean thoroughly, use a good etching primer to provide a proper key and apply in several thin coats. you will always get a better finish if you spray rather than brush.

i'll never forget the words of my college lecturer. "the end result will be directly proportional to the time and effort spent in preperation"

he wasn't wrong.

Hi,

If you have the money it may be better to buy the GRP side panels from MK, think its £204 for both side panels, mine were painted but the finish was awful,

Hope this helps
