The axle used (in my brief experience) is the 700/900 series axle or it's predecessors. Which ones had lsd's though I don't know.

Ovlov 240 Torslanda has an LSD as I recall. They were the last of the line.

Cheers,

Neil.

You need a Volvo 240 rear axle (sought after by drag race car builders - bullet proof). I believe LSD was a dealer option.
Loads of breakers with knowledge in UK
Just type - Volvo breakers into google search.
I use a 240 injection estate for towing, bought it with 40,000 on clock, it's now got nearly 200,000 on the clock!

you get rear disc's also! Rescued attachment 240_rear_1.gif

I have never seen a volvo LSD. Maybe it's used in 264 or in cars sold outside sweden, but I doubt. Volvo is all but high tech, at least the old rwd ones. If you want a good LSD, then use one from BMW.

The Volvo live axles was made by DANA, they are not bulletproof but can handle some +300hp and are NOT lightweight. The 740- axle is very similar to the Cortina axle in dimensions and weight, the 240 axle is narrower, 90mm on track. Not many models have LSD as standard but it was on the option list. The 240 LSD is not extremely rare (in Sweden) but the car is used in rally and track racing so there is a demand for LSDs.
The 740-LSD is a centrifugal-thing designed to release at about 50km/h and is not really suitable for advanced driving but better than none i suppose.
Now the funny part: There is no marking on the LSD-axles. You have to raise the rear of the car, turn one wheel and see witch way the other wheels turn to know if it is a LSD axle or not.

Happy hunting!

IIRC the Group A 240 Turbo used a carbonfibre axle housing - that should fix the weight problem

UK drag racer running a volvo 240 axle fitted with oil cooling system - pump and radiator - handles 450bhp

I think it's a case of how far can you go till it breaks!

PS: Apparently the LSD axles have an aluminium plate on the axle (post 1984) near the diff advising that special fuild required for the non slip axle.
