mx5 engine

hi all, some off you may know that i went though a duratec build, then had to sell it as the insurance issues, so tonight i just picked up a 1.6 mx5 engine and box.

the plan is to go in place off the 1.6 pinto, it is lighter and more powerful.

i will start buy bits through the summer to make the winter swop over as little time as possibly.
the engine

the box

the engine and box

Keep us posted. I'm seriously considering swapping the kwak engine out, and sticking an MX5 in this winter too!

will do, the best bit all that for it was only 30pounds.

the same guy said i can have the ecu, the prop shaft and the wiring loom for free.

so this engine swap should be on a budget.

I have a 2-year old 1.8 MX5 engine / boxin the garage.

It's interesting to compare them the MZR set-up to the Duratec... far more gizmo's bolted onto the Mazda unit - I suspect most are to aid the VVT system!

Mines for sale BTW!

What year is that 1.6? If it's <'93, check to see if you have the short nose crank version - they can be troublesome with the keyway wearing away...?!

Very tunable engine - those B6's were designed for forced induction, so have oil squirters under the pistons as well as a few other choice design features, and are a very capable bottom-end.

Shame I weighed my '97 1.6 in at the local scrappie - but it was kaput anyway.

Good luck with it, it should be a nice little gem when you get it running.

??

Swivel chair - not just a locost solution - useful for parking, checking blind-spots, getting in/out. I say genius!

If you want a good place to check for engine advice on that model (moreso the 1.8L BP), check here.
