chassis legalities

Does anybody know what the legalities are regarding changing chassis? I'm thinking about buying a road going locost and driving it for a while and then eventually putting my racing chassis into it. Can this be done??

I'd guess at not allowed without IVA, as it'd count as a significant chassis modification.

No idea how easy it would be to tell the chassis had been replaced though.

You can replace the Chassis in a production car for an identicle new replacement without IVA (Saw it in an article about old TVR's) so you might be able to if you claimed it was a replacement for a worn out chassis.

Might have a problem eg at MOT if chassis number does not match documentation

If you put your chassis number on it who is going to know? Providing the chassis is a similar design, ie Not cobra or something totally different to a 7.

nice 1 thanks. that pretty much answers my questions. the only thing I'm thinking is I'd like a road toy with the option of putting my 'sorted' book chassis sometime in the future
