I'd noticed just the other day that the price for Carbon-Fibre cloth was coming down a bit.

Anyone know why?

Just as it is with men...

Not all carbon twill is equal - there are a LOT of brands out there and they vary in quality Immensely...

carbon fibre in china is very very cheap at the moment. grab it while you can :O)

the price oon the ebay add is ok. you can buy more from china for same but you have to wait 2-3 weeks for it.

Thanks

Not bad price - but as said already, no mention of grade, make etc. I would assume it would be a 3k material (due to the g/m2), meaning a nice tight weave.

Just be aware that as it has a cut edge already, it will fall to pieces when it is rolled, unrolled, and used - best bet is to masking tape the edge before cutting it.

The Chinese are one reason it is cheaper, but there is also a lot coming from Russia, from a company producing lower grade (industrial) carbon. No problem for what most people use it for - but you wouldn't build an airliner from it! Also the main carbon manufacturers all built factories to increase supply (it takes 4 years to build and get a carbon line running), and now Boeing have gone slow on the 787, there is a certain amount of surplus capacity, which means the price comes down. Once Boeing and Airbus pull their fingers out with the 787 and A350 (and my company Vestas is growing bloody fast, and is already the largest user of CF in the world), then expect the prices to creep up.

Contact some of the uk suppliers, not the online resellers, you may be suprised at the price. When i looked at buying 10m2 of 300gsm 2x2 twill it was about £14/m2, that was 18 months ago.

£17.50 for 0.7m2(if i have calculated it right) may be the best price for such a small quantity.
