Need local info about double glazing (East Anglia)

Had a visit from an Everest double glazing salesman this afternoon - I shall refrain from commenting... blatant iffy sales techniques, with high prices at the end. A very small amount of on-line research also suggests that they're worth avoiding.

So - I'm looking for personal recommendations for local double glazing people - local being Suffolk or North Essex.

Can anyone suggest any good firms?

Kent Blaxill in Sudbury?

I have their secondary stuff. It's donkeys years old and apart from the odd replacement hinge it's still going strong.

Cheers

edit to add:-

Having just read Mike's post below I think that when you walk into a local shop you straight away have the advantage.

You can walk out at any time.

Most double glazing companies are run the same way in my experience; they train their sales people to use lies, intimidation, threats. The first "No obligation" quote I had the guy would not leave until I started phoning the police, he was here for 4 hours trying to get us to sign up to a ludicrously expensive deal. The others I have not let into the house until I make sure they understand that I am going to sign nothing, some walked away immediately and others tried it on and failed.

I would personally avoid ALL double glazing companies, and speak to a trusted local builder. I have had by far the best quotes from a local builder and he has done a good job of installing windows in several houses in the street on the strength of word of mouth.

I too am looking to have double glazing fitted in the next couple of months, so would love to have a recommendation so as to try and avoid having to throw out the over pushy salesman or feed him to the the dog....

We had Anglian fit ours a few months ago - they were very good with no mess or damage and the builders quoting for our building work at the moment couldn't believe the price

Pitty your are to far away as I supply and fit, I find that I can supply and fit at least 50% cheaper than the bigger companys as my out goings are next to nothing .Try a local supplier in UPVC windows and they will recomend a joiner to fit.

david

i have always used SEH windows and doors. they have a show room near adsa.

the last sales man whom came round gave me an honest price and than left. he would not take an order on the night of the visit. he came back a couple of days later and finished the paper work so no pressure selling.

used them twice.

used to have fun with the sales men letting them think they had a sale and then say no.

my vote would be for SEH.

ps even got a discount for being a return customer

Hi David,
I've just had all my windows, doors and roofline done by Anglian, very pleased with the job and price. Everest LOL, they quoted me £45000, Anglian were less than 1/6 of that.
Let me know if you would like to come over and "inspect".
Nick

Hi David,

You could try JV Windows in Woolpit (01359 242924). Have heard some favourable reports about them from other people in the past.

I would DEFINATELY recommend:

Infil Double Glazing Ltd
2f Fifth Avenue, Bluebridge Industrial Estate, Halstead, Essex CO9 2SZ

Tel: 01787 477231

David.
Been in business donkeys years and I know loads of people who have had stuff done. NONE of them have a bad word to say, so I got them to do mine a couple of years ago. Super professional and nice people.

Thanks for those names & numbers - I'll give them a try...

Had a follow-up phone call from the Everest salesman yesterday - I had made it clear from the beginning that I'd be shopping around - from the tone of his voice I think he knows that he's on a loser!
