I've had a play with an iPad
It's one thing to stand back and criticise when you've never even handled an iPad, but today I had 10 minutes play time with one belonging
to a colleage.
My first impressions were:
It's smaller than I expected.
Really nice screen.
Text is easy to read (e.g. the eBook reader).
It's heavier than I expected.
Stuff runs quickly.
I'd be worried about scratching or breaking the screen.
It's easy to use - I played with everything almost immediately having never used an iPhone before.
I saw it running via WiFi - I have no idea how quick it would appear on 3G.
Would I have a use for one? Yes, probably.
Am I prepared to pay so much money for one? Absolutely not!

I still don't see the point. A laptop is better for general use and it's too small to be truly portable..... Each to their own but I think
it's just an Iphone for people who think an Iphone is too discrete because if it's in your pocket everyone can't see you've
got one

It's quite a bit smaller than A4... take an A4 sheet and take 25-30mm off the height and width.

Not used one myself but have seen reviews, etc. I would have one if someone gave it to me as a present, but no way could I justify shelling out that
much

I have just bought one. Haven't used it yet. It's in the boot of the car. I'll have a play later.

Hi fellas
I'm just typing this reply on one - using 3G which is fine
It is smaller than you'd expect
And because of the locked nature of the os it can be a pain to 'save' stuff
But as a casual browsing and media device it's fantastic - the battery lasts a very very long time at least 5 times longer than my mabcook pro
and it's much much more transportable - the difference is surprising
Hope this helps

Wait a while - several other manufacturers are developing modern tablet form factor machines with nice capacitive touch screens.
The Asus EeePad looks nice, and LG and MSI have
announced similar machines recently running Windows 7.
There are also numerous Android based tablets either already available or in development.

I should add that the one I played with cost £699 - top-of-the-range model.

Spent quite a while playing on them at PCWorld.
Impressed with the lovely screen and (having barely used a Wii) when I had a go on an Ipad car racing game that's steered by rotating the Ipad I
was quite impressed!
However! I think this explains some of the things it lacks rather well:
It really is somewhat lacking.
Also, after what happened around that bloke who published details of the new Iphone and some other articles I've read I'm now a bit
dubious about Apple ethically too!
Cheers,
James
