911 vs boxster

why is a 911 so much more than a boxster yet I cannot see it offers that much more.

e.g. 2004 boxster, £ 13 k vs £ 25 k for a 911.

ok, so there is 200 cc extra but that can't justify the huge hike.

marketing and image baloney?

It's all about the product range.

They need to price them apart enough so they can fit the Caymen (sp?) in between.

Always the resale value to consider as well although there must be a point at which they both bottom out.

I'd guess you might pay more for parts and servicing on the 911 too

I went in a 6 or 7 year old Boxer the other day, I couldn't believe how crappy the interior was, the plastic coating on the door handles was all peeling off, and it all just looked a bit cheap and nasty, I was a bit shocked TBH. My 9 year old Beamer interior is no different from how it was when it was new.....

My names steve,I am an engineer and I drive a 911.If I was called Tarquin, cut hair or swung to the left I would drive a Boxster....simples.

Your get loads of the above.Boxster is a nice alternative and as a covertible looks heaps better than a 911 with a ragtop or hardtop.

911 is ugly and overpriced. Boxster makes far more sense.

I'd buy a Boxster and use the cash left over on a rocket ship kit-car!

Hmm!

When my eldest daughter finished uni she bought a Porsche and made loads of friends amongst the breakdown services.

To this day when we see a Porsche driver we say "poor ba5tard".

Don't get me wrong it drove superbly but old ones are bad news and new ones are too costly to drive as they are supposed to be driven. All in all a esoteric engineering product, based on a flawed concept that is completely unsuitable for the consumer market.

Give them a miss and get a car that can be driven.

You'd be surprised how quickly the sales people at B&Q try and assist you after ignoring you for the past 15 minutes when you try and start a chainsaw

You don't buy a Porsche boxster because it makes financial sense though!,

You buy it because you couldn't afford the 911!

lol

Having had 911s in various guises (3.2, 964, 993 and 996 GT3) the last Porsche I bought was a Cayman S which as a road car was brill, every bit as good as the 911s, if not a bit better. Really nicely balanced, lighter, cheaper to run etc. I think the Boxsters/Caymans are under-rated and better value than the 911s. OK, so the Cayman would only do 170 ...

no back seats in a boxster, which isa big "real life" differentiator.

The second biggest lie in history! Just because Jeremy Clarkson said so, doesn't mean it is so.

However... if Chuck Norris said so, then I'd sit up and take notice!

I bought a Boxster S at a time when I could have afforded a 911... the thought of buying a 911 never crossed my mind even though there was one sat right next to the Boxster in the showroom! IMHO they are ugly, over-priced and over-rated.

Boxsters seem to have a very bad reliability reputation. I know 2 people who have had them (both women now I think about it). One was brand new, and was taken back by the dealer after only being driveable 20 days in the first 5 months. The other was unreliable and sold on fairly quickly.
911s are supposed to be reliable, but I have no experience of them

Hugh

I;d buy a 996 for about £13-15k.

I would like a boxter, but my last 2nd car was an elise and it wasn't long before I realised I'd prefer a 2+2 coupe so that we could use it for nice family days out.

My attention at the moment is on either a 911 or an XK8 (for less money, and probably actually a bit nicer).

Never heard him say it? I thought he had a dislike for 911s TBH

I was just poking fun as it's generally what everyone thinks!

Anyway, what's the first biggest lie in history?

As others have hinted - the boxster has got the engine in the right place at least.

Chuck a bit of forced induction on it
