cortina upright steering arm taper too small!!

I bought some cortina uprights a while ago, now fitting them, and ive just discovered the steering arm ball joints i purchased are to small to fit in the taper! anyone else have this problem? Does the standard m14 track rod end fit into the cortina upright? If not what joint should i be using?
Just to clarify, the taper of the joint may be correct, but the overall dimensions mean it rattles around in the hole!
Thanks Al

What do you mean by the 'standard M14 track rod end'?

I bought cortina ones and fitted them to the escort rack

You need to make sure youve got a escort mk2 rack, the MK1 rack is no good because thread won't mate to Cortina track rod ends.

so is the taper different on cortina track rod ends? i have a new mk2 escort rack, with m14 coarse threads, at the moment i have escort track rod ends, the tapered portion of which is too small (diameter wise, unsure about the actual taper)
thanks

Cortina Mk3 to 5 and Escort Mk2 (and 70s Granada and Fiesta) track rod ends are identical --- they are the same part. Sierra parts also fit.

RS2000 Mk2 are different from Escort Mk2 as the RS2000 used Capri/Mk2 Cortina 1600e struts which were imperial.
