I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

Most likely cause is a broken speedo cable

I love your reg plate Terry

I would email smiths, they made it so should be able to repair it.
I have used speedy cables, they are good but not sure they can fix an electronic speedo.

Is it a new speedo, as in not used? I just had my tachometer repaired by speedy cables under warranty. Turnaround time is about 3 weeks for a repair at the moment.

Give them a call and you can talk to one of their technicians to try and diagnose the problem before you send it in.

ETA. Speedy cable/green gauges/caigauge all seem to be basically the same company. I bought mine from greengauges but the repair was done by speedy and I spoke to the same person both times. I've also had a speedo from a Tvr repaired by the (also smiths gauges in the tiv) so for sure they can fix it.

Its not new its a few years old, MK have tested it and every thing was working up to the guage so they reckon the guage is faulty its been intermitant for about a year now.

One of the tricks we used to do was to cut the square end off an old speedo cable and put it in a variable speed drill, stick it in the speedo and see if the needle or trip moves, if not the guage is Boogerd , if it does move spin drill up to 100mph and wait till it goes past 999999, then you either have a new 0 mile gauge or a low milage car, not that I would do anything of the sort.
