VIN Number again.

Right after getting a VIN number from the nice people at th DVLA I thought i was all sorted. But when I came to stamp the chassis today, which i thought would be easy, the stamps just bounced when i hit them and hardly made a mark in the metal.

I made a plate by stamping some thin steel with a solid bit underneath it and its come out spot on.

I just wanted to know if its alright to rivet it to the chassis or if not can i weld it to get it through IVA.

Also made a VIN plate up with Make, Model Axle weights ect which im planning on riveting to bulk head, if its ok there, or does this need riveting to chassis to.

Rang VOSA today but nobody there to give me a answer.

Any suggestion would help.

Cheers

Steven

Nottingham iva guy told me monday that he was more than happy with a welded plate and it could be stiched on and didnt need to be welded all the way around.

He also said the second one could be a printed sticker.

if you want to stamp the chassis.

jack the car up and put it on axle stands.

the suspension and tyres take out all your effort..

i found it easier to stamp a bit of 20mm bar and then weld it to the chassis..

doesnt matter if you make a mistake either.

Trying to stamp the chassis tubes can dent them. Stamp a steel strip and weld it on (rivets wont do). It has to be part of the chassis which it is once welded.
