I am looking to do a similar project next year, done a fair bit of research and i reckon the LWB/XLWB Fiat Ducato/Citroen Relay/Peugeot Boxer is the
ideal vehicle. FWD gives a lower floor height and they are lighter so give you a bigger payload which is a consideration by the time you fit it out
and then get all of your gear in.
The majority of the professional conversions are based on these models so easy to have a look around some to get ideas for a good layout. They are
also very good on fuel. I will be looking for a Ducato Maxi 3.0 160bhp, £8.5k ish gets a mint 57 plate with nice mileage.

land rover 101 ambulance
although that one looks original so too good to mess up into a camper.
