Zetec Silvertop timing belt

Hi all

Following on from my previous post, I have bought a cheap Mk2 mondeo, which despite being a year 2000 has a silvertop zetec. (THink its been bodged in as a retro fit)

This is making getting bits a little bit of a headache, as I can't go to normal bod with reg plate and ask for parts.

The car desparately needs a timing belt change.
Could some one give me a the engine code (Is is something like ZH20??) or confirm for me what part number I am looking for.

Are all silvertops the same? Mine is a silvertop that says "Zetec" on top. I believe earlier silvertops says DOHC??
So shoudl i be able to just ask for a pre 4/98 mondeo belt?

Any ideas?

are you sure its actually a silver top engine and not just a black top engine with the aluminium silvertop cam cover on it as they are interchangable, can you read the engine number to find a date?

Never thought of that. (But you are just adding to the confusion)

It does have the silvertop campulley cover too, but I guess that would be interchangable too.
I am not sure I will get to the engine number, but I will have a look at the water pump pulley, that should tell IIRC.

Ok deffo silvertop

one piece sump
oil filter angled down
silvertop drive belt routing
and I think the engine number flange says NGA

I will just order pre 4/98 parts, how wrong can it be...
Timing belts are overrated anyways

+1 to that

I bought a blacktop back in July, I was convinced it was a silvertop because of the cam cover (it was metal). It wasn't, the water pump is the real giveaway

pretty sure it is silver top given the water pump and drive belt routing.

I will take the cam pulley cover off tonight, that will tell me what idlers and tensioners I need, think belt is identical between engines.
