Turbo'in a Blacktop

Does anyone know how much it would be to turbocharge a 2.0l zetec?

I have a fully build road legal Mk Indy 2.0l zetec with R6 throttle bodies (on megasquirt) and I'm thinking about getting it turbocharged.

Has anyone done this? Or know someone who could help me out?

Cheers
Gav

Also a little of topic but is it possible to have a paddleshift gearbox on a ford zetec engine?

Anythings possible, and you could probably run low boost on standard internals but im sure someone more edumacated than me will be along in a minute.

Kindest Regards,

Im busy building a blacktop with a T3 turbo to go in
my Indy atm.

Up to now it has cost me 350 ish quid.I still need an intercooler with pipework,
a dump valve,a manual boost controler and i need to make plenum.
I recon another 150 bar should do it.

I could be a bit out though

Hey andy,
Have you thought about the cost of getting it on the rolling road? Would it need to be remapped?

Hi Gav,

this is a big learning curve to me.I'm going to be running on carbs to start with,
so haven't thought that far ahead.I just want to get it running first then take it
from there.
I cant do the linky thing but a recent post titled ''supercharging through bike carbs''
by NS Dev. has some good info and says it can be done easily with standard carbs and
a bit of pipe work to pressurise the carbs.

If it wont work then MS it is.Let me know hoe you go about it mate.

Andy

zetec turbo

1st change rod bots for ARP ones this is a must
2nd fit 2mm de compresion plate
3rd TDo4 turbo works well
4th Fit bosch 360cc injectors
5th Intercooler
6th Oil return pipe to sump
7th Oil feed pipe to turbo
8th Water feed and return to turbo

I used to run 15 psi on this set up but never changed the rod bolts and knocked a big end out, i am shaw if i had i would sill be on the same engine as when i stripped it down there was no detination on the pistons. I also use megasquirt so i should have a map that is close to what you want. This set up will give you about 280 BHP.

I'm sorry to hijack the thread Gav but can i ask Madteg a couple of questions please?

Firstly,i am using a 2mm decompression plate but have conflicting info regarding the use of head gaskets.
Some say use 2 gaskets and some say to use 1 gasket with high temp sealant between the plate and block.
How have you done it Madteg?
Also,what intercooler did you use?

Thanks chaps

Andy

I used to use two thin multi layer gaskets, never had a problem.

Hey Madteg,

How much do you think I'd be looking at to get my zetec turbocharged by someone? I doubt I'd be able to turbocharge it on my own.

I would think for someone to do it for you, you would be looking at 1200 pound to as long as you already have injection on the car. But it is so hard to put a price on it as there is so many variables.

was involved in a silvertop Turbo, used the Rover turbo inlet and and injectors readilly available off ebay. had new pistons fitted instead of decompression plate, runs the RS Escort turbo (too small) dont advise this turbo as it runs out of steam at 5500 rpm its currently being rebuilt with new internals . this set up was mapped at 200bhp but being strangled by the turbo Dave Walker recommended a Hybrid turbo which it is having next and it should be good for 300 bhp at least. ARP Bolts, escort manifols modified for Zetec head. Oh and it resides in a series 2 RS turbo

Back in the day when zetec turbo were rare, the general consensus was to bond the decomp plate to the block was a better solution than 2 gaskets but things may be different now.

Is there scope on the std zetec piston to skim the crowns or are they too thin? Not locost I know. Used to be popular to run vaux piston to lower comp too.
