Halfords car Battery date codes.

Can anyone help decoding the date code on my Halfords battery, the code is:

45 D 08 Charged Week 40.

It was on the car when I bought it a year ago, and was told it had been recently replaced, I don't have the receipt, but the battery has 4 year guarantee written all over it.

I thought if I could be sure of the original purchase date I'd try it on for a replacement under the guarantee.

But surely any item can be returned for a replacement without a receipt ?

So Swmbo says who works for a leading supermarket (they wear green, and its not asda)

Early October 2008

Are you sure the problem is the battery ? charge it let it rest for a few hours then and do a voltage drop test at 200amps

As BT says, it could be other related problems,

I thought my halfords battery was not holding a charge, untill i went in the garage with out the garage light on
to see all the dashboard lights were lit with the ignition off

ever since that problem, my battery sees to be holding a good charge

You can only return items without a receipt under statutory rights - i.e. under the sale of goods act etc. This most certainly doesn't include a four year guarantee, so unfortunately they're within their rights to ask for a receipt. However, I'd suggest that if it's halfords branded and it's got a date code on it, then the manager should sort you out, assuming he's not in his teens.

They don't have a date code, the guarantee is from date of purchase so unless you can prove the date and store you need a reciept.

Thanks for the responses guys, I thought day or week 45 of 2008.

The battery won't hold 12v for 10 minutes, drops to 10v, there is no current flowing with the ign off, AVO on amps in series, needle doesn't flicker.

I'll give it a shot in Halfords now I'm fairly confident its a 2008, if they tell me to sod off, nothing lost really.

Should it matter about the date of purchase? Is he supposed to take the reciept for the car (seeing as it was there when bought)

It's got Halfords and 4 year guarantee written all over it so that can't be brought into question.
It's also got a date of manufacture code on it and if the above is correct it can't be even 3 years old so it's indisputably in warranty..

Mind you the Halfords near me argued that I could have bought their Halfords branded oil filter anywhere...

Strange you say this, we had to replace my mums Halfords battery about 3 weeks ago. She'd had it not quite a year.
We found the receipt but only after we'd had to buy a new one from somewhere else. She took the old one back and they put up a hell of a row but she got her money back in the end.
