What to do - and whats it worth ?

I'm finally going to start working on my Fury today - and just cant make up my mind what I want to do with it...........
It needs a few things replacing due to wear and tear (clutch , tyres , propshaft.......) which are top of my to-do list , along with sorting the dodgy wiring
But , heres the problem - I am thinking of getting it mechanically sorted and selling it ...... and starting a new build

But - whats a well sorted V6 Fury worth ? It's far from a standard spec (if there is such a thing....) , with a big disc conversion , lengthened front wishbones , ten gallon tank (and lowered boot floor) , Mazda V6 on throttle bodies (about 206 BHP)

It's a cracking tourer - the big tank gives an easy 300 mile range between stops , the suspension mods and big brakes make it fantastic up and down mountains , it has full weather gear so a drop of rain is no problem - the only downside is the bodywork is starting to show it's age a bit , and the bonnet bulge is a bit , well , brutal

Or - do I refresh it , and upgrade it a bit - and stay in the same old rut ......................

So...What do you fancy building?

As per title, is there anything out there that you have your eyes on building?

If you didn't spin the wheels so much, you won't be in so much of a rut...

Sub-Consciously, if you wanted it out then you wouldnt want to sort out the wiring, clutch etc etc... youd get it working correctly and sell it as is IMO.

Consider the option of keeping it and modifying it. What else could you do to it;

Engine change for more power?
Different gearing / ratios?
Change of colour and modified bodywork?
Change of wheels?
Different exhaust?
Different interior?
Hard top conversion?

It really depends what you want to get out of a car next. At least you know this one works and has been through the test....

Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Every winter (when it's just sat there while I tackle other projects...) I think about moving on , then spring comes and I enjoy driving it sooooooooooooooooooooooo much.............
The problem with changing it in any way is , it works so well - the engine and gearing combination is absolutly spot on - relaxed cruiser , and an animal on a mountain pass
I dont want any more power

Where does that mk1 shell come from?

I love the mk1 escort and would really like to have something like that - spaceframe with a bike engine would be pretty awesome I reckon.

Its a fibreglass reproduction available form here:

http://www.oldfordautos.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/oldford?opendocument&part=9

It's been in development for a while but needs a custom chassis.

I reckon a simple ladder rail mounted with a weld on cage, some 7 style suspension is the way to do it.

Should be relatively easy to build a spaceframe of the right proportions - a se7en chassis for the front, rear and trans tunnel and something along the lines of a mini spaceframe to suit the dimensions of a car (if that makes sense?)

Keep the fury and keep upgrading parts as it is if you ask me Such a stunning car, why let someone else have the fun driving it But maybe thats because im not an escort fan!

All you need to do is find a Mk1 donor and you can get an age-related plate

I must say, MX5 power on a seven-style+cage frame sounds like the way to go.

I'm thinking of using as much of the Mx5 running gear as possible - just shortened by 70mm to match the wheelbase of the escort .
And if it could end up looking something like this - whats not to like

4WD

I'd be so tempted to go 4WD, wolf in sheeps clothing style!

Spaceframe, evo or Subaru running gear and a very standard looking escort mk1 body

With decent mk1's unobtainable that bodyshell will open up a whole new chassis market.

If I were in the business, I'd get a supply deal from these guys and design a complete kit with RWD, Duratec, and full cage.

And then a race series.

I think the first thing is to think how much hassle you want? How much money you'll have once you sell the fury?

If you then take 20% off the fury sale fund, will you be able to build the car you want?
(20% is your contingency that you'll blow anyway but at least the total cost won't be huge amounts over the money available).

And in terms of money wise.. Im not sure exactly how much the fury is worth, but im sure its worth a lot more to you as a car than the lump cash sum your left with to do another project with....

Well...........as far the money from the Fury goes , it will be entirely dedicated to the new project , plus whatever I can make on throttle bodies/adapter kits etc.
The biggest single cost is the body - which I wont need straight away , the donor Mx5 will supply just about everything else - all trim/glass/lights will be Mx1 escort (which may cost a bit - along with a set of minilite look-a-likes)
As for the value of my Fury - I was thinking somewhere around 6 to 6 1/2 - does that sound reasonable ?

To others who probably haven't seen it, who are suggesting the use of an "MX5 powertrain and se7ern style suspension", here's what an MX5 looks like when you lift the lid, so to speak;
