Probably to do with the oxide layer. It epoxies quite well though especially if you abrade the oxide layer off.

3M double sided tape/sheet is the solution!

We make some ally facia panels at work and use this method to bond the inner and outer skins together. Surfaces must be clean and grease free and you only get one attempt at positioning the parts together (we use assembly jigs). Once stuck you will not get them apart without completely wrecking them.

I can probably acquire a sheet of the 3M sheet (A4 sized) if you want to have a go.

I'm not needing to it, just noticed in work that you can't glue aliminium cans together. If I was doing it on the car I would bond it with something much better than Superglue

Another vote for 3M tape. I used to stick brackets to alloy road signs - once positioned you will tear the metal trying to get them apart.

Cheers,
Raz

Provided you remove the oxidation prior to application, HAFIX should do it.
