Oulton now 102dB

Just noticed that noise limit for Oulton is now 102dB, down from 105. Another blow for BECs

There are a few circuits that are being forced to look at noise levels by the local do gooders, and from what they are saying it is going to get worse.

Ya know this type of attitude from 'local residents' never ceases to amaze/perplex me.....

The race tracks have been there for years and years...so why buy a property near a race track......if
you don't want to hear cars/bikes going around a race track ....... it just doesn't make any logical sense....
mutter..... mutter..... grumble..... grumble...

out of interest, at the risk of sounding like a numpty - what difference does it make BEC versus CEC in terms of quietening induction/exhaust noise? Obviously with CEC that normally just means sensible ( decent designed 'can' ) to suit the engine - doesnt the same apply for BEC? of is it more a case that BEC's use more standard 'can's which arent up to the job of noise suppression? having seen a busa engine in a westie which was like a whisper due to the way he'd designed the aire intake am wondering why this would be an issue for others?

It's not so much the can as the induction. A lot of BEC's are built without airboxes, to fit under the bonnet. The noise from the induction is loud at 11000rpm! My can is a GSXR1000 can - it's a bit restictive but pretty quiet, but you can get a massive can made to quieten it down more. But my main worry is I've been tested anywhere between 85 and 104.9dB, so the meters aren't even consistent - which is why I can't justify booking any track day that's not 105

It's not an issue for most bikes. They measure them differently to cars with the same engine. Annoyingly.

I remember a few of these cases being thrown out on the basis that the track/fairground/airport was there first
