If someone can give me some basic sizes I can knock up a CAD drawing and get a price to have them laser or water cut and if desired even mirror polished, or anodised.

Obviously a group buy would work out much cheaper, the more the merrier...

My plan was to try to get this made and then powdercoat it orange to match the highlighting on my car...

Good to see a lot of people getting involved. I will (after the weekend) CAD one up if people are keen? Then if anyone knows someone who can get it cut I will send the drawing to them? Alternatively with so much need I will look into having them made.

I could buy one of ebay but they are £40 which I think is a bit much? What do you guys think?

I could get one cut at work, as long as from 10mm mild steel plate....

But no, seriously, it wouldnt be stupid for someone to get 50 cut out and to sell them on, although i already have the westfeild one i acquired with the car.

If they are £40 on ebay I think I would get a "real" one from Cateringvan: £40.80 (presumably plus P&P) linky

Hi

Sorry if I've missed the point here but isn't this an attempt to copy the Lotus / Caterham 'badging'?

Why build a Locost / MK / MNR etc and rebadge it as above?

Why not be proud of what you've built and badge accordingly?

No offence meant.

Regards Mick

Because I like the design of the cateringvan one.

If only one or two are wanted then I can put a bit of ally or stainless sheet between some plywood and just CNC mill it out.

If lots (10+) are to be made then laser or water cutting is the way forward, whichever is cheaper... Sub stuff out for both at work so can probably get it done cheep. Also use a professional polishers so could have ally ones in mirror finish, same goes for anodizing.

Also have a proper paint shop at work with some real nice quality kit, 2-pac paints and the sort so could have them spayed for near nothing. Choice of colours would be a bit limited though, an army green which is similar to British racing green and a canary yellow are the only colours we use in bulk, but there might be one or two others.

As for powder coating, can’t help with that one.

Also, if in stainless have the option to run an oxy torch over them and create that nice tempered look in a few colours (straw, pale blue, electric blue and purple are the easy ones to get) but wouldn’t be the most consistent finish, or heard wearing for that matter.

Has any thought been given to how they could be attached? Cable ties or similar could look a bit messy, but maybe add some thin little lugs here and there that could be bent around the grill to hold it on.

I dont want the caterham one as I want to attach the 7 onto my grill as it is.

With regards to attaching it I wasn't entirely sure. Maybe have prongs added to the design that could be bent onto the grill? Is there any sort of metal bonding strong enough that could attach something to the rear an then cable tie/bolt? TIG something on the back?

If we can think of an idea I will try to draw something up, I will get some prices (either from companies or people on here who have access to the required equipment) and see how much demand there is in a new thread.

Unless I am missing the point, aren't all sevenesque cars rough copies of Lotus 7's?

I don't get it either.

The '7' is a Caterham car and the logo is a Caterham logo.

Sure, many of us drive Seven insprired cars, but all cars have been inspired by a predecessor. When you drive an MNR, an MK, a Luego, etc. then it's not a Seven - it's an MNR, an MK, a Luego, etc.

Anyway, on a separate note... can anyone make me a Prancing Horse to bung on the bonnet of my Freelander!

So whats was the outcome of this? Is there anyone who could provide the measurements for
1.whole grill
2. 7 logo
& was there anyone who could make them/possibly a group buy.

I think the whole grill would be a tricky one as they are usually made from lots of bits of wire welded together. Not so easy to do on small batch at a good price. Unless someone knows of another way to make them.

As for the “7” logo, I’m happy to knock up a detailed CAD drawing if someone can provide some basic dimensions (height x width) from there I can work out a price depending on batch size.

I currently only have black and orange. But they powders are cheap as chips from electrostaticmagic. You buy the powder, and il coat it for free if I can keep the left over powder!
