Would Sierra dums fit a Cortina????

Hi

Just looking through the web and noticing that the sierra drum brake including the back plate looks very like that used in the Cortina, just the hub bearing assembly looks different but they look interchangeable or should I say more interchangeable than the escort ones I have a present

Anyone got some photos or even better a drawing with sizes, if you have a set to sell or swap and could give me a few sizes to check compatibility that would be fab

cheers

Don't know how interchangeable they are Whipp, but I have complete sets (backplates, drums, cylinders, shoes, springs etc) of 1.6 and 2.0 Sierra drum brakes in the garage looking for a home if they're any use to you. The 1.6 set are narrower and IIRC slightly smaller dia. and noticeably lighter than the 2.0 set.

(Yours for the cost of postage and a beer)

ETA....Happy to take some snaps and measurements tonight if you like.

Superb Thanks

It would be the larger 2.0 set that I'd be interested in. If you could measure the sizes I need to check it would be very helpful.

Basically the main pictures I'd need are the back side of the back plate at an angle though the more the better tbh and the sizes are the diameter of the hole in the center and the distances between the four holes as I've shown in the picture.

Also important is the distance between the back flange where it bolts onto the hub or in my case axle and the inner flange of the drum. Though I should be able to tell from the photos. If you need help as to what I mean give me a call or email me (I'll send a U2U with this)

If their what I need then I'll give you £30 + the p&p for your trouble

Cheers

No probs - I'll measure up tonight and drop you an email with some snaps attached.

I'm sure that's a random web image, but just to highlight, the Sierra drums are 4 stud not 5 stud.

Cheers
Nick

Thanks, Nick

From what found on the web so far it looks very promissing that they would be what I need to get brakes on this thing

1.6 203mm rear drum brakes

Hi there do you still have the smaller 203mm rear drums from the 1.6?,
I'm after the mechanicals to retrofit a cortina axle. I've got the wheel cyl and drums, just need all the linkages, handbrake lever , springs etc?

Hi Damian,

U2U Nick as he has helped me very kindly with what I need. I have a couple of drums of the smaller size for and escort which are complete but I'm not sure exacty what parts you need and if the ones I have would fit yours, do you have a diagram?

The Falcon is not all that light a car and if you can I'd recommend the 2ltr 9 inch drums, I had a 2.8 engine in mine and on several occations struggled to stop

You should put some pics of your build, would be very interested in seeing what you are doing, this is the second time I've built mine as it was in a crash and needed a full strip down and a new front chassis. Great cars though and huge fun to drive. IMHO they are better than Morgans

If you want I'll let you see what mods need done when I get these brakes as to what needs done to fit sierra drums to the cortina axle, not much by the looks of it

Hi Mr Whippy,

I've been searching the site for the info on fitting 9" Sierra drum brakes to the Cortina (Koln) axle as I want to do the same thing. If you don't mind me asking how did you get on with this? What mods were needed?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Martin.
