MK Reverse Starter motor

Hi

i am looking at installing a starter motor reverse gear on my MK indy chassis. MK sell the kit for 350. they will sell the gear on its own for 100. can anyone tell me what starter they use and what mods the starter has?

cheers

still not convinced those starter reverse motors arn't just going to rust up inside and stop working as they were never designed to have the gear or slider shaft exposed to the elements as they normally live inside the sealed off bellhousing and are notorious for jamming when dirt get in. I've had to clean plently in my time with petrol just to stop them chewing up my flywheel.

They are sealed, or at least mine is, by a figreglass cover on the bottom of the chassis, others have fabricated a cover from ally

Hi 40INCHES

i was reading your posts on the other link. you listed a load of starter motors. can you tell me if the one supplied by MK is compatable with the starter gear? or do you need to modify the starter gear aswell?

When MK started selling the reverse kit, it was said that the starter was a VAG, so, probably
However, unless MK have redesigned the spur gear, it was not very well engineered in that it had a thin centre that was simply trapped
between the prop and diff although, as far as I know, none have failed, I would not use it.
The one I designed positively holds the prop and gear onto the diff flange, and I was more than willing to pay another £60 for
piece of mind

HERR HERR i double that above the one 40inches designed is perfect i got one made off his design by the same company i wasnt happy having the gear jammed between the prop and diff and the air gap between them as there was nothing solid for the two to pull on when nipped ?? spend the extra money i used a golf starter from euro car parts £59 all in brand new non exchange...

If you look in my archive in the Electric reverse folder, you will find a copy of a quote from HPC Gears, contact them with the part number and specs and they will give you an up to date price
Or, there is a drawing in there you can use.

It's the same starter, just fits a lot of models.
Not a perfect match, the pitch is OK, but the thrust angle is a few degrees out, guy at HPC said that to
manufacture a spur with the VAG thrust angle would be over £200 His advise was that the standard
angle would be more than fit for purpose, just a bit noisy.
You need to allow 6 thou backlash.
